16-year-old's banned from driving after serious crash near Wallingford

Another teen is still in a rehabilitation unit, 5 months on.

Two boys - one from Ewelme and another from Sonning Common - admitted a number of offences including aggravated vehicle taking and injury caused by accident.

On May 12th, a Vauxhall Corsa, which had been taken without the owner’s consent, left the road and crashed into a tree in Days Lane, Ewelme.

Two other 16-year-old boys, who were in the back of the car, sustained serious injuries. Police say no action was taken against them.

The two teenagers who pleaded guilty at Oxford Youth Court - also admitted using a motor vehicle in public without third party insurance and driving, otherwise than in accordance with a license

As well as the 12-month ban, they were handed 12-month referral orders this week.

Investigating officer PC Sandra Terry said: “This was an avoidable incident which unfortunately left two boys with serious injuries.

“I hope this serves as a message to others that taking and driving a vehicle without the consent of the owners and without appropriate learning can be ultimately very dangerous to others.”
